Poly(2-oxazine)s: A comprehensive overview of the polymer structures, physical properties and applications

2021
Abstract Poly(2-oxazine)s (POz) have recently gained traction as a great potential for polymeric materials with biomedical applications. Compared to polymers from its analogous cyclic inimo-ether, 2-oxazolines, POz offers enhanced flexibility due to the additional methylene group in the backbone. Despite being first reported over 50 years ago, POz have seldom been reported, compared to the extensive research that has been done on poly(2-oxazoline)s. The scope of this review, therefore, is to deliver an overview on the chemistry of 2-oxazines and its polymerisation, as well as a comprehensive summary of all POz homo- and copolymers to date. Their properties and potential applications are also highlighted to show the importance of the emerging polymer class.
