ORQUIECTOMIA EM BOVINOS EMPREGANDO ABRAÇADEIRA DE NÁILON NA HEMOSTASIA PREVENTIVA: EFEITO DA ESTAÇÃO DO ANO, MÉTODO DE CONTENÇÃO E TÉCNICA CIRÚRGICA

2009
Orchiectomy may be carried out through several surgical procedures, from the double lateral incision method (LI), transverse incision (TI), until the section of spermatic funnicle by burdizzo. The scope was to evaluate the effect of the season, contend method and surgical technique on the recovery of crossbred cattle (Bos indicus x Bos taurus) submitted to orchiectomy, employing nylon bracers for preventive haemostasia. The study was carried out on a farm using 168 male cattle, around 18 months of age, and average weight of 290 Kg, in May/2005 and January/2006. The animals were allocated in eight groups of 21 subjects (GI, GII, GIII, GIV, GV, GVI, GVII, GVIII), considering the season, surgical technique and contend methods used. Postoperative complications were evaluated as well as clinical healing, on the days three, 23, 43 and 63, after the procedure. It was possible to conclude that cattle orchiectomy done on the month of May, employing contend in stock, resulted in fewer cases of postoperative complication, while the surgical techniques had no influence on the occurrence of complication, thus leaving this choice to the surgeon’s preference. Nylon bracers have proven its efficiency in preventive haemostasia. KEY WORDS: Cattle, neutering, nylon bracer postoperative.
