Epidemiology of Varicella in Qingbaijiang District of Chengdu,2005-2009

Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of varicella in Qingbaijiang district of Chengdu,and provide evidence for the effective control of varicella.Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the data of varicella cases in Qingbaijiang reported through disease information reporting system from 2005-2009.Results A total of 215 varicella cases were reported in Qingbaijiang during this period with the average annual incidence of 10.98/100 000.The incidence increased from 1.25/100 000 in 2005 to 36.21/100 000 in 2009.The disease occurred all the year round,which peaked during May July and during October December.The cases in the 6 months accounted for 87.44% of the total cases in a year.Most cases were the children and students less than 14 years old(80.93%).The cases mainly distributed in Dawan street and Hongyang street.Conclusion The varicella epidemic Qingbaijiang was serious,and it is necessary to strengthen the health education,carry out the health measures in school and conduct varicella vaccination to control the varicella epidemic in Qingbaijiang effectively.
