Third Sunday of Easter

2016
Our Syrian Family There was a small reception-luncheon in Cobourg for the local and area Syrian families who have arrived to meet MP Kim Rudd last Thursday. Along with many other groups, we of the Refugee Committee had written a letter to the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Minister of Immigration and Kim Rudd our local MP over the concerns for Raid’s family who have still not arrived even though there son has been here over a month, encouraging the government to reunite them. At the luncheon, Kim Rudd made the announcement that Immigration Minister John McCallum is lifting restrictions on privately sponsored Syrian refugees. We had the opportunity to speak with Kim Rudd and make our personal appeal as we introduced Raid to her. After March 1st passed, when the government reached its goal of 25,000 Syrian refugees, they quietly called back all the immigration personnel and the planes. With this new encouraging news, we hope that Raid’s family will arrive very soon.
