Preliminary Risk Assessment for Eight Selected Study Areas. Volume I
1996
Abstract : This report presents preliminary baseline risk assessments for eight priority areas of known or suspected chemical contamination at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), Maryland. The eight priority areas were selected by the U.S. Army based on past activities at APG and environmental sampling data and have been identified as areas of concern in the Interagency Agreement (IAG) for remediation that has been negotiated between the Army and EPA Region III. These risk assessments provide information on potential adverse effects on humans and wildlife from chemical contamination at these sites under existing conditions (i.e., in the absence of further remedial actions). They are considered to be preliminary estimates of risk due to data limitations and are considered to be most useful for identifying the chemicals, exposure pathways, populations of greatest potential concern for each area so that subsequent studies, investigation, and cleanup measures can be focused. These eight sites were prioritized according to the need for further action.
