Stylistically Binary Patterns in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

2011
Stylistics is a discipline to study literary theme and aesthetic value with linguistic approaches.Applied in appreciation of English poems, stylistic analysis can help readers to derive a more comprehensive and scientific interpretation of a poem and to develop a better grasp of the theme and aesthetic value presented by poet. This paper attempts to apply the theory of stylistics to the analysis of the English poem,Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,to demonstrate the stylistic significance of binary patterns repeatedly shown at the levels of lexicology, phonetics, semantics, and syntax, etc.,and to reveal what the poet tried to communicate to readers through such language measures.
