The SOCIAL Platform and the Integration of Internet of Things Devices to Monitor Activities and Behaviors of Older Adults

2020
Current developments of healthcare technologies made possible innovative ehealth applications that provide the opportunity for personalized care in residential environments. The research study reported by the present chapter aimed to develop for the Social Cooperation for Integrated Assisted Living (SOCIAL) platform, a platform of services to support the care and assistance of community-dwelling older adults, four types of Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring devices (i.e., contact-, motion-, pressure-, and power-monitoring devices) together with analytical procedures to infer important events that might characterize the health status of the care receivers. Moreover, the existence of platform mechanisms such as interoperability, authentication, authorization, logging, and auditing allows an interoperable and secure access to the processed information.
