Las especies medicinales amenazadas en Cuba

Se analizan el inventario, el endemismo, y el grado de amenaza de las especies vasculares referidas como medicinales para Cuba. Las especies alcanzan la cifra de 1241 (97 endemicas) que pertenecen a 725 generos de 172 familias. De ellas, 17, de igual cantidad de generos y familias, poseen categorias de amenazadas: 4 en peligro critico, 7 en peligro, 6 vulnerables. Salvo dos, todas las especies amenazadas son endemicas. Estas especies habitan en nueve formaciones vegetales: 6 de bosques, 2 de matorrales y 1 herbacea.Los factores que amenazan estos taxones son diversos: la sensibilidad propia de la flora insular, su alto valor estetico, la sobreexplotacion de especies de interes economico, y la reduccion de las poblaciones por las modificaciones ambientales que han llevado al deterioro o a la destruccion de los habitat. Palabras clave : Especies medicinales, especies amenazadas, Cuba ABSTRACT The inventory, endemism and the degree of endangerment of the vascular species referred to as medicinal in Cuba are hereby analyzed. The referred species amount to 1241 (97 are endemic ones), which belong to 725 genera from 172 families. Among them, 17 species,which have the same quantity of genera and families, are in the endangered categories: 4 are critically endangered; 7 are endangered; 6 are vulnerable. Except for 2 species, all the endangered ones are endemic. These species grow in 9 plant communities: 6 of them in forests, 2 in thickets and 1 in herbaceous areas. The threat factors for these species are diverse: dominance by the endemics, the insular flora’s sensibility, its high aesthetic value, the overexploitation of species of economic value and the reduction of the populations due to environmental modifications, which have lead to the deterioration or destruction of their habitats Key words: Medicinal species, endangered species, Cuba
