Frost Differential Condensation Separation Process of Water-Heavy Water in Reduced Pressure

2003
The heavy water as potentially used in solvent of NMR and moderator of a nuclear generator is produced by those refining process of an electrolysis or a chemical exchange, but used to be expensive due to a high energy consumption. Our research got through an enrichment of heavy water from water - heavy water mixtures in a frost differential condensation process which employed frost condensation on the inner wall of cylinder chilled in outer side under a reduced pressure. As a preliminary experiment, we grappled with estimation of the distribution of frost water condensate on the differentiated parts of inner surface of cylinder. The experimental data of distribution on the frost differential condensation of water were compared with those of theoretical free jet distribution by Tollmien, resulting in a confirmation of the experimental constant 'a' which has been influenced by materials in situ. In a due course, binary vapor mixture of water - heavy water was tested in the same experimental apparatus, which brought in a confirmation of concentration of heavy water around forward position of the chilled condenser. This result shall suggest that the experiments of the above mentioned works effectively for the concentration of heavy water in binary mixture of water - heavy water.
