A study of the chemical changes in rubber during ionization aging using IR spectroscopy

1972
The IR spectra of a (NK + SKD)-base vulcanizate show that during ionization aging the vulcanizate undergoes profound structural changes: accumulation of oxygen-containing groups, breaking of molecular chains, and cross-linking via oxygen bridges. Oxidative destruction predominates here. Structuring is expressed in the later stages of aging.
