CTD-on-a-Chip: High-Precision Polar In-situ Interfacial Data Collection

This paper describes the theoretical background, design, and fabrication efforts towards a sub-millimeter-scale polar-specific conductivity cell for use at the ice-ocean interfaces. Five different geometries for the conductivity cell for have been conceptualized and modeled. All five designs show potential to fulfill the design requirements. Fabrication efforts on the preferred design have been undertaken using traditional silicon-based processes. Challenges in the fabrication processes are addressed, with potential solutions discussed.
