The mediating effects of destination love between destination personality and future behavioral intentions among tourist: A work in progress

2014
The main purpose of this paper is to outline a research design to study the mediating effects of destination love on the relationships between destination personality and future behavioural intentions of tourists. The concept of destination love is derived from Sternberg‘s Triangular Theory of Love which suggests that love comprise of three elements: passion, intimacy and commitment. The various combinations of these elements will lead to different types of love. The intended study will apply Sternberg‘s theory of love in analysing the idea of a destination in terms of its anthropomorphic characteristics. The approach to be taken in the study is quantitative in nature where the measurement of destination love will be developed, refined, modified and tested for its validity and reliability. The sample for the study will be drawn from tourists visiting various popular destinations in Malaysia, such as Penang, Melaka and Cameron Highlands.Measurement of destination love will be developed based on Sternberg‘s Triangular Theory, whereas measures for other variables will be adopted and modified from various relevant sources. In conclusion, data will be analysed to examine the validity and reliability of the various measures, to examine the linear relationships between the variables, and to examine whether destination love mediates the relationships between destination personality and future behavioural intentions of tourists.
