Synthetic photochemistry. Synthesis of (±)oliveroline and (±)ushinsunine

Abstract Sodium borohydride reduction of 1-(2′-Bromobenzoyl)-2-methyl-3,4-dihydro-6,7-methylenedioxyisoquinolinium iodide ( 4 ) gave a mixture of alcohols which on irradiation in dil.HCl afforded (±) oliveroline and (±)ushinsunine.
