Mediators in biobleaching of pulps by laccases

2015
Laccases oxidize variety of aromatic and non aromat ic compounds by using oxygen as the electron accept or and producing water as by-product. Generally laccases n eed mediators for catalyzing the removal of lignin from pulp. The potential of laccase mediator system (LMS) to d egrade lignin polymer has been demonstrated by many researchers, but still the high cost and possible tof artificial mediators hamper their applic ation at an industrial level of biobleaching of pulps. Current review presents the critical information of how med iators (synthetic or natural) are helpful for bio-bleachin g of different pulps.
