Expression of matrix metalloproteinase 2,9 in premature rupture of membrane

Objective To investigate the role of matrix metalloproteinase 2,9 in premature rupture of membrane.Methods Anmiochorionic membranes were collected from the following three groups,groups 1 with premature rupture of membrane(n=39),group 2 undergoing elective cesarean section(n=50) and group 3 with term labor after vaginal delivery(n=50).Matrix metalloproteinase 2,9 were assessed with S-P immunohistochemistry.Results IHC scores of matrix metalloproteinase 2 in group 1 were higher than those of group 2 and group 3(P0.01).There was no expression of matrix metalloproteinase 9 in group 2.IHC scores of matrix metalloproteinase 9 in group 1 was significantly higher than that in group 3(P0.01).Conclusion The high expression of matrix metalloproteinase 2,9 may play an important role in the pathogenesis of premature rupture of membrane.
