Imágenes de los jóvenes sobre la inmigración: un estudio comparativo

2019
One of the pursuits of Spanish educational system is to remove barriers for dropouts. The main focus of Campus Itaca, carried out by the Autonomous University of Barcelona, is on this framework. In this regard, we analyse one of the debates focused on people from different ethnic origins living together in Spain. The twofold objective of this paper is to examine young’s people images of immigration, and to analyse the existence (or not) of changes in those images in three cohorts. We used a qualitative approach based on task analysis, getting an independent sample of 1,127 students from 29 Catalan secondary schools. The 2010 cohort seems to have more problems to reject stereotypes of ‘health system’ and ‘language system’; 2014 cohort give more correct answers regarding ‘health system’, ‘commercial sector’, and ‘coexistence and civility’. Nevertheless, 2014 cohort fails rejecting ‘religion’. With regard to 2012 cohort, it seems to adopt a half-way point in order to reject the images shown in comparison with 2010 and 2014 cohorts. We discuss the impact of results obtained, whereas highlight the need to promote experiences such as Campus Itaca by deepen the repercussion of these experiences on society and persons
