Conclusion: Status of Student Engagement Interventions

Abstract This chapter summarizes the status of evidence-based engagement interventions. First, we review the five themes that cut across the chapters in this handbook including (1) the centrality of relationships, (2) engagement as a multidimensional construct, (3) importance of context, (4) the necessity of tiered systems of support, and (5) the use of data. We include a table that summarizes the formal academic, social, behavioral, mental health, and community-based interventions outlined in the handbook chapters, including information on the components and type of intervention, ages served, evaluation of effectiveness, and implementation information. We conclude the chapter with a discussion of implications for research and practice.
