Position resolution, high rate behaviour and space charge induced image distortions of a multiwire X-ray detector for digital subtraction angiography

This report describes investigations of position and energy resolution, high rate behaviour and space charge induced image distortions of a multiwire X-ray detector for noninvasive coronary angiography with synchrotron radiation. The requirements for multiwire detectors and the performance of a prototype are discussed. At a pressure of 8 bar a spatial resolution of 345 μm (FWHM) and rates up to 5 × 109 counts s−1 cm−2 have been achieved. At this pressure the energy resolution of the chamber is ΔEE = 53%(E (keV)12 for ArCO2 = 991.
