Sustainable Humanistic Medicine in a World of Climate Change and Digital Transformation

2020
Human activities, including those of the healthcare system, are contributing to an increasing carbon footprint and to climate change. Integrating climate change topics into medical curricula presents an opportunity to help develop the insight and skills necessary for practicing medicine in a world where health and healthcare providers are impacted by climate change. In these evolving conditions, medicine is challenged to prioritize its environmental sustainability and to respond effectively to the impact of climate change on health. Integrating innovative digital health technologies into ways of delivering care can build more sustainable and resilient communities. Therefore, physicians and the healthcare system are called to an increased awareness of climate issues and to perpetual adaptation and adoption of technological advances to change the way medicine is practiced in the future.
