Spectroscopic studies of Sm3+ and Eu3+ co-doped lithium borate glass

Abstract Absorption and emission spectra of Sm 3+ and Eu 3+ co-doped lithium borate glass of the following composition: x Sm 2 O 3 + (100 − x )[0.84H 3 BO 3 + 0.15Li 2 O + 0.01Eu 2 O 3 ], where x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 0.6 and 0.7 mol%, have been reported. The concentration of Sm 3+ was varied keeping the Eu 3+ concentration fixed at 0.01 mol%. Optical absorption and emission spectra have been measured in the spectral range from 350 to 2400 nm. The oscillator strength, Judd–Ofelt intensity parameters, branching ratios and radiative transition probabilities were calculated. The obtained results are discussed and compared with other literature data for Eu 3+ in various compounds.
