Abstract The kinetics of oxidation of aliphatic alcohols (like methanol and 1-propanol) by [CAN] in acetonitrile medium results in the formation of corresponding aldehyde. The reaction is first order with respect to [CAN], [acid], [alcohol]. The rate of reaction increases with a decrease in the polarity of solvent indicating an ion-dipole interaction in the slow slep.The reactions exhibit no primary kinetics isotope effect and positive polymerization test observed.
