Dairy and Supplemental Calcium Intake Effect on Blood Calcium, PTH and Vitamin D Concentrations and Blood Lipid Profile of Jordanian Adult Females

2016
This study was designed to determine the effects of calcium supplement and dairy calcium on blood serum calcium, urinary calcium, corrected calcium, calcium creatinine ratio, ionized calcium, parathyroid hormone (PTH) and blood lipid profile. Eligible recruiters of 122 Jordanian females were clustered randomly into three groups according to weight status. This randomized controlled clinical trial was performed among 122 Jordanian women, aged 18-45 year old, randomly assigned to control group (n =40), milk group (n=42) and or calcium supplements group (n =40) for 12 weeks. Urinary calcium decreased in the control group, while increased in the milk group. Corrected calcium, calcium creatinine ratio and ionized calcium increased significantly in the intervention groups. PTH levels decreased in the intervention groups (p 0.05).
