STUDY AND SIMULATION OF ROSEIRES POWER STATION GOVERNOR FUNCTION BLOCKS

2015
Roseires Hydro Power Station is a major source of electrical power in Sudan. ABB's PROCONTROL P control system controls generating units, instead of employing a speed regulating governor. The governing system was successfully modelled and implemented in MATLAB Simulink according to ABB's specifications. The model was integrated with an ideal hydraulic turbine model, as well as an ideal servomotor model. After integration, the complete power system was analyzed. The results obtained are consistent with calculations and expectations. The digital governor proved to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the system, in comparison to older, more classic governors. In addition, the availability of a wider range of functions such as frequency deadband, droop regulation and damping control showed the superiority of the system as opposed to those classical governors. The non-ideal, detailed modelling method used in the duration of this project resulted in a more accurate analysis process of the actual system performance.
