Utilization of waste concrete, grog and hydrated lime in building materials

2003
The materials used in this investigation are waste concrete after the isolation of reinforcement steel, coarse aggregate isolated waste concrete, grog, and hydrated lime. The compressive strength of the hydrated waste concrete specimens can be improved by the isolation of the coarse aggregate from the concrete. The waste concrete can be activated by thermal treatment at a temperature of 600 C for 2 hours. The compressive strength of the untreated and the thermal treated specimens hydrated for 3 up to 28 days water curing shows improvement of the physico-mechanical properties of the material after thermal treatment. Further improvement of compressive strength can be achieved by the use of a mix of waste concrete, grog, and hydrated lime. The hydrated specimens of this mix gives a compressive strength of 355 kg/cm 2 using the thermal treated coarse aggregate isolated waste concrete and a water curing for 28 days. The results of this study show that the waste concrete and its mix with grog and hydrated lime can be used instead of the cement constituent in mortars, and in hydrated building brick-making.
