Baby Weight and Maternal Factors

2017
: The conception of pregnancy and thereafter the development of a fertilised ovum into a multifaceted, fully formed and healthy foetus is one of the most fascinating phenomena of the nature. Hyperplasia continues in second trimester, while increase in the body weight and size takes place by cell hypertrophy which takes place in late second trimester and third trimester. Finally these also result in maturation of various systems. During the entire developmental stages, the foetus is exclusively dependent on the mother for nutrient supply to fulfil developmental necessities, so that maternal factors like age, height, weight, nutrition etc. reflect the weight of new born.
