Absorption Activity of Materials Based on Fibrous Acrylonitrile and 2-Acrylamido-2-Methylpropanesulfonic Acid Copolymers

The absorption of zinc ions by ion-exchangers based on acrylonitrile (AN) and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS) as the ionizable component was studied. It was found that the amount of zinc absorbed by these materials could exceed the SEC of the sulfonates. It was proposed that ion exchangers based on poly(AN-co-AMPS) could bind zinc ions through non-ionic interactions.
