A VISIT TO CUBA

To the Editor .—In early June I decided that if the State Department would give permission I would accept a long-standing invitation to visit Cuba to demonstrate various techniques of stapes surgery and discuss otological problems. The official "yes" came in a few days and by mid-June my wife and I were on our way to Mexico City where we were to pick up our visas at the Cuban Embassy. At the Havana Airport we were met by Dr. Horacio Escobar, Professor of Otolaryngology and Director of the Department of Otolaryngology in the Ministry of Public Health. That evening he talked to us at some length about the conditions in Cuba pertaining to otolaryngology, which has always been a rather weak specialty there.
