THE WALKING CLASS. WALKING TO SCHOOL - TRAVELLING GREEN: A CAMPAIGN GUIDE

1999
The Pedestrians Association's Walk to School campaign began in 1995. Road safety officers, Local Agenda 21 coordinators, transport planners, environmental health officers, health promotion specialists and individuals in environmental and community groups have become involved. Since late 1997 the Pedestrians Association has worked closely with TravelWise, the local authorities' transport awareness initiative. Part I of the guide provides ideas for schools or local authorities who want to promote walking to school in their area, or for those who would like to refresh an established campaign. Part II looks at a number of "green travel to school" initiatives which other local authorities might like to adopt or adapt for use in their own areas. These include the walking bus; school safety zone; safe routes challenge; better ways to school; streets ahead; walkers and cyclists list; TravelWise; bike to school.
