Introduction: The term mucocele is used clinically as general term which refers to phenomenon of retention and extravasation of mucus, deferring just after histopathological analyze. The inferior lip is most frequently achieved, primarily by the fact of this site has more tendency to suffer injury. Objective: The ideal treatment to any form of mucocele is complete surgical removal with accessory glands that nourish the lesion. Material and methods: Some techniques have been proposal to facilitate it removal and avoid relapses, among them one that use casting material (Shira's Technique). Results: This article show a mucocele's case in inferior lip, in that alginate was used as part of the technique to excision of the lesion. Conclusion: Despite of the chirurgical technique, the patient must be informed about the etiological factors involved, because the high frequency of relapse from this lesions.
