The Beginnings of Spectroscopy (1898–1904)

2013
This chapter describes how Deslandres, the successor to Janssen as Director, brought spectroscopic studies to the fore at Meudon. These early studies added to our knowledge of spectroscopic double stars and to the evolution of exploding stars, or novae. The retrograde rotation of the planet Uranus was also a discovery made at Meudon with the aid of the Grande Lunette.
