Chemical composition of oxidized ceresine according to IR-Spectroscopic results

1983
The chemical composition of ceresine-80 oxidized with atmospheric oxygen has been studied by chromatography and IR spectroscopy. It has been shown that under the oxidation regime studied about 30% of aliphatic acids and 10% of alcohols are formed. The oxidation of ceresin-80 with atmospheric oxygen has permitted a product to be obtained which includes mainly the linear C/sub 17/ -C/sub 35/ aliphatic hydrocarbons (around 40-45%), free primary and secondary aliphatic alcohols (around 5-10%), and acids (around 30-35%), and also aldehydes and ketones (around 10-20%). In its chemical composition this product approximates natural waxes and may find use in the same fields as brown-coal and peat waxes.
