Simulation of a Half-Duplex Protocol in a Meteor Radio Communication System to Estimate Message Delivery Time

This article is devoted to the analysis of the half-duplex protocol from the point of view of its applicability in the meteor radio channel of information transmission. The effectiveness of meteor radio communication systems is determined by the characteristics of the transmission protocols, but the selection of protocol settings is a computing- and time-consuming task. To avoid such difficulties, this work aims to obtain an estimate of the average message delivery time, taking into account the workload of the systems involved in the data exchange, using the simulation model of the meteor radio channel. The created model provides work with two modulation schemes, and its verification was carried out by comparing the theoretical noise immunity curves with experimentally data for each of them. As a result of the model implementation, we obtained estimates of the average message delivery time for various parameters of systems, specifically for a variable packet size and a variable number of data packets transmitted by stations. It also shows the advantage in delivery time when transmitting a phase-modulated signal as compared to a frequency-modulated one.
