The bacterial infection of fluids in a serous cavity induces an incresed lactate content. We have corrected that rate, subtracting from it the rate of arterial lactate. We evaluated 121 patients (30 with pleural, 38 with CSF, 5 with sinovial and 48 with peritoneal punctures). Simultaneously, we evaluated the lactate rates in organic fluids and the arterial lactate rate with an enzyme UV method
