Revisiting “Hiccup” SAW Resonators on Strong Piezoelectric Substrates

2018
The “hiccup” SAW resonator design is revisited. It is demonstrated using fast-FEM simulations that high-quality factors can be achieved even on leaky wave substrates by replacing the characteristic half period gap with a distributed gap. The hiccup resonator has good performance for a smaller size compared to an ideal synchronous resonator and can be used as a building block in ladder filters or SAW sensors. The performance of the hiccup resonator on a TCSAW structure and a device similar to Murata's I.H.P. are also studied.
