Hormonal regulation of α 1 foetoprotein

THE clinical usefulness of α1 foetoprotein (AFP) is extensively documented1 but the biological significance of this protein and the mechanisms regulating its synthesis remain unknown. We have investigated the effect of various hormonal, nutritional and haematological conditions on AFP metabolism in newborn and adult rats and mice. We present our results and some conclusions on regulation and function of AFP.
