Representações cotidianas sobre o consumo de drogas: um estudo entre jovens de Santo André, SP, Brasil Everyday representations on drug consumption: a study among young people of Santo André, SP, Brazil

Valores sociais que cercam o consumo de drogas estao predominantemente fundamentados em regras morais, que retroalimentam a intolerância ao usuario, incentivam sua discriminacao e “justificam” sua responsabilizacao individual. Buscando compreender como esses valores se expressam, o objetivo deste estudo foi apreender e analisar representacoes cotidianas relativas ao consumo de drogas de jovens de diferentes grupos sociais. Trata-se de pesquisa qualitativa, cujos dados foram obtidos atraves de questoes abertas de 84 entrevistas, realizadas em 10 instituicoes de Santo Andre, SP, Brasil. Os resultados indicam representacoes homogeneas sobre os usuarios em todos os grupos sociais, reconhecidos como sujeitos “problematicos”; as diferencas ficaram por conta da atribuicao de responsabilidade social sobre o consumo “problematico”, sendo, primordialmente, o individuo responsabilizado no grupo central, a familia no quase-central, e a ausencia do Estado no periferico. O que sobressaiu com relacao ao grupo quase-periferico foi a designacao da igreja como instituicao responsavel por resolver o problema. Prevalecem valores individuais e de intolerância. ABSTRACT -Social values that surround drug consumption are mainly based on moral rules that nurture the intolerance towards users, their social discrimination and “justify” the assumption of their individual responsibility. In order to understand how these values are expressed, the aim of this study was to identify and analyze everyday representations related to drug use of young people from different social groups. It is a qualitative research whose data were obtained through 84 in-depth interviews, conducted in 10 institutions of Santo Andre, SP, Brazil. The results indicate homogeneous representations assigned to users in all social groups, recognized as "problematic". Differences were due to the allocation of social responsibility over the “problematic” being the individual considered the main responsible in the central group, the family in the near-central and the absence of state in the peripheral group. What stood out in the almost-peripheral group was the attribution of main responsibility to solve the problem to the church. Individual values and intolerance prevail.
