The PACS Project at the University of Florence

This paper describes the activity performed in Florence in the area of Picture Archiving and Communication Systems, that was initiated a few years ago with some peculiarity and carried on together with some contradictions. The research performed in the framework of the European RACE - Telemed Project is described as well as the development and medical use of the Florence jiberoptic MAN.
