Formation and Crystal Structure of Ternary Ce5(M,Si)3 Compounds, M: Ru, Rh.

2001
Abstract The crystal structure of ternary compounds Ce 5 (M,Si) 3 (M=Ru,Rh) were studied by X-ray single-crystal and powder diffraction. A Cr 5 B 3 type of structure ( I4/mcm space group) was established for all samples: Ce 5 Rh 0.46(1) Si 2.54(1) , a =7.873(1) A, c =13.796(4) A (X-ray single-crystal study of an as cast sample); Ce 5 Ru 0.68(2) Si 2.32(2) , a =7.8466(7) A, c =13.622(3) A (X-ray powder diffraction of the alloy annealed at 870 K); Ce 5 Rh 0.90(2) Si 2.10(2) , a =7.8592(6) A, c =13.657(3) A (X-ray powder diffraction of the alloy annealed at 870 K).
