Vapor-Phase Infrared Absorptivity Coefficient of BIS-(2-Chloroethyl) Sulfide
2008
Abstract : We measured the vapor-phase absorptivity coefficient of the vesicant chemical warfare agent, bis-(2-chloroethyl) sulfide (HD), in the mid-infrared (4000-550/cm) at a spectral resolution of 0.125/cm. The HD used in the feedstock was subjected to a rigorous analysis by gas chromatography (GC) and NMR to verify its purity, and the vapor used to produce the composite spectrum was periodically sampled by GC. In this report, we describe the experimental method employed to acquire the individual spectra that were used to produce the composite spectrum, summarized the statistical uncertainties in the data, and provide a comparison to similar data from another laboratory.
