Tumor Resistance to Apoptosis

2004
Anticancer therapeutic regimens such as chemo-, radiation-, and immunotherapy may trigger tumor-cell death through the induction of apoptosis. Alterations in the apoptotic pathways may determine tumor resistance to current therapeutic strategies. An understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in the regulation of apoptosis and how tumor cells evade apoptotic death may provide insight into the processes of carcinogenesis and the progression of various malignancies, making it possible to use more rational approaches to antitumor therapy.
