Chaos and heart rate variability

1995
The chaotic nature of healthy HRV is a topic of debate in the scientific community. Since most previous studies concluding at possible chaotic dynamics use correlation dimension and return maps, this paper uses other methods aimed at chaos detection, namely local intrinsic dimension, maximum Lyapunov exponent computation and nonlinear prediction, in order to see if their results are consistent with the former ones. The results obtained all lead to a dismissal of a chaotic model for HRV in healthy patients.
