Teachers’ Roles And Competencies In Online Distance Learning During The Covid-19 Pandemic Crisis: A Case Of Physical Education Teachers

The purpose of this study was to examine whether the physical education teachers’ perceptions of roles and competencies in online distance learning differ according to teachers’ gender and years of teaching experience;and whether there is a relationship between teachers’ ages and these perceived roles and competencies In total, 138 physical education teachers (42 75% female and 57 25% male) working in Mersin province participated in the study The Demographic Information Form and a 5 point Likert type Teachers’ Roles and Competencies in Online Distance Learning Scale, consisting of 14 items, was used to collect data There was no statistically significant difference between the online distance education role and competence perception, total perceived online distance education role and competency, perceived communication role, social role, and pedagogical role scores of physical education teachers according to their gender and years of teaching experience;but a statistically low to moderate significant correlation was found between the ages of teachers and their perception of online distance learning roles and competencies, their perceived communication role, social role, and pedagogical roles and competencies The physical education teachers’ perceptions of roles and competencies towards online distance learning were high and this role and competence perception did not differ according to gender and year of teaching experience, but it was related to age © 2019,MIlli EgItIm All rights reserved
