An aerial refueling system (10) for an aircraft, comprising: at least one fuel tank (24) located in at least one aircraft wing operable to store a volume of fuel; one refueling connection (20) located remotely from at least one fuel tank (20), at least two fuel pumps (54, 56) operating to transfer fuel from at least one supply tank to the refueling connection located remotely; at least one electrically controlled (60) valve having each of an open position permitting fuel flow and a closed position isolating fuel flow between the tank and the refueling connection; and a computer system (46) operable to automatically vary operation of any quantity of the fuel pumps and control the electrically controlled between the open and closed positions during transfer of the fuel to the refueling connection valve.
