Time and Temperature Survivability of PRRS Virus in Serum and Tissues

1993
Currently, definitive diagnosisof this disease depends on isolation of PRRS virus fromclinically ill animals. Harsh environmental conditions duringshipment of samples to a diagnostic laboratory could resultin inactivation of the virus and preclude virus isolation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stability ofPRRS virus in serum and tissues under the typical time andtemperature conditions of transportation of samples fromthe field to a laboratory.Five 7-day-old piglets were placed on nursery decks in ananimal isolation room at Purdue University School of Vet-erinary Medicine and fed a liquid milk replacer
