A ray-tracing study of inclined double-crystal monochromators

1993
Third generation synchrotron X-ray sources such as the Advanced Photon Source (APS) under construction at Argonne National Laboratory will place severe heat load demands on the first beamline optical element. A cooled, inclined double-crystal monochromator is one of the methods being developed at the APS to handle these high heat loads while retaining the brilliance of the source. Using a modified version of the 1989 VAX/VMS SHADOW code, the authors examine the properties of the exit beam for two inclined double-crystal monochromator geometries.
