[A follow-up investigation of 302 vasectomized men in the county of Funen]

1980
A questionnaire was sent to 302 vasectomized men 13-25 months after the operation had been carried out. The purpose was to describe the social and demographic aspects of these men. 88.5% replied to the questionnaire. All of the men had a permanent relationship with 1 partner 96% had been married for more than 5 years 83% had 2 or 3 children and 59% were 30-39 years of age. The group contained a significant majority of vasectomized men from the higher social classes. The younger group 25-34 years showed significant increases in their intercourse frequency after vasectomy and this was independent of the number of children. The sexual relationship was generally improved or unchanged after the operation and the relationship deteriorated in only a few cases. There were no significant differences in the degree of satisfaction with their sexual lives among the younger and older men after vasectomy. Less than 10% of the men had their sperm analyzed by the general practitioner 3 months after vasectomy but only 5 men were dissatisfied with the results of the operation and only 3 expressed a desire for the reverse procedure.
