Application of Prony algorithm in identification of short-circuit fault current parameters

The difficulty in realizing the phase-controlled fault interruption is how to quickly and accurately determine zero-crossing points of the short-circuit fault current. In this paper, based on the signal characteristics of fault current, Prony algorithm is applied to the solution of zero-crossing points of fault current. By deriving the solution of Prony algorithm, the parameters such as the amplitude, phase and damping factor of the fault current are calculated to restore the fault current waveform, and obtain the target zero-crossing points further. By modelling the short-circuit fault in Simulink, the sampling data of short-circuit fault current is obtained. After a series of simulations, the results show that Prony algorithm offers many advantages such as obtaining the parameters of fault current in a short time, and high accuracy of current waveform fitting.
