Small Bowel Polyps

2020
Small bowel polyps are abnormal growths of benign or malignant tissue. There are numerous genetic familial syndromes in which small bowel polyps can present as part of the phenotypic expression. Many of these syndromes have guidelines to investigate for these polyps. Overall, the incidence of small bowel pathology is relatively low compared to the colon or foregut. Additionally, the small bowel is relatively inaccessible to traditional investigative techniques. Because of these factors, there is often a delay in diagnosis. When diagnosed, the underlying cause of the small bowel polyp(s) and their presentation will determine the optimal management approach.
