Ameloblastoma in the interalveolar septum: Report of five cases

Five cases are described of patients with a histopathological diagnosis of ameloblastoma located in the interalveolar septum. The results were: 1. The cases consisted of a man and 4 women, with an average age of 46. In all 5 cases the lesion occurred in the incisor or canine region of the mandible. 2. Swelling of the gingiva was the chief complaint in 4 cases. 3. Radiographically, there was a radiolucent area with a well-defined margin in 4 cases. The lesion had a multilocular appearance in 4 cases. Divergency and resorption of the roots were observed in 2 cases. 4. According to the findings of the operation, one patient was diagnosed as having an intraosseous lesion. In 3 cases the buccal or lingual cortical plate was absorbed. One lesion was suspected as being peripheral. 5. These cases were diagnosed as ameloblastoma of the acanthomatous type or follicular type histopathologically according to the WHO classification.
