Spectrum partition technique for frequency control in large-scale all-optical networks

1997
All-optical communications based on OFDM techniques are very attractive for future telecommunications. However, the frequency instability of semiconductor laser diodes still constitutes an obstacle to exploit OFDM benefits. In this paper, we present a decentralized frequency control system suitable for large scale all-optical networks. Spectrum partitioning is proposed so that the controllable spectral range could be enlarged and link fault could be detected. Experimental results on monitoring and stabilizing channel frequency in a local node, confirm the feasibility of the described method.© (1997) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
